Northwest 35, creator of luxury, artisanal rugs that tell stories, to unveil debut designs at Decorex 2024
[London, 20/09/2024] Harmonising heritage with contemporary creativity, Northwest 35 rugs represent an exciting and innovative design language, with meaning and messaging woven into them. Offering a concept that is unique within the marketplace, their exciting launch will take place at the international interior design event, Decorex, at London’s Olympia (6-9 October)
Founder, Richa Walia, formerly a thought leader for a global real estate firm, trained architect and exhibiting artist, was inspired to create Northwest 35 when restyling her London home. Unable to find beautiful, traditional method rugs, which combined classic and modern design elements, Walia designed her own, symbolising key messages and milestones.
“When you can’t find something you like, create it yourself—that’s my mantra in life.Designing our family home fulfilled a lifelong dream, and the perfect rug was the elusive, finalpiece needed to complete our living room. Unable to find one that reflected our character, Itook on the challenge of designing it myself and identifying the best artisans to make it. Theprocess was challenging, but incredibly rewarding, and produced a rug that beautifully ties our space together and infuses it with our personality.”
Northwest 35 exists to enable others to express their stories similarly, collaborating in design decisions to produce truly unique, personal pieces of art that celebrate lives.
Committed also to improving the lives of their artisans, and ensuring fair trade throughout the supply chain, Northwest 35 adheres to strict standards. Materials are of the highest quality, sustainably sourced, and production is ecologically sound. As a certified Label STEP Fair Trade Partner, Northwest 35 is subject to independent audits, and is actively helping to raise ethical and environmental standards within the handmade carpet industry.
Northwest 35 will be showcasing six rugs at Decorex, representing their various collections and exemplifying their design philosophy. All of the designs on display will be customisable, to a buyer’s choice of colours, shape, size, and even materials.
“We are immensely proud and excited to be bringing our brand to Decorex, and a handful of our designs, including my favourite, from our flagship ‘Resilience’ range. It was my intention from the outset for the rugs not just to be beautiful works of art, but also to provoke thought and discussion, and the symbolism in this design is particularly significant for me, and will resonate with many.”
